THE ALAN TURING INSTITUTE

Seeing further with data science

As a newly formed national institute for data science, The Alan Turing Institute, headquartered in the British Library, London, is the first of its kind in the world. Research excellence is the foundation of the Institute: the sharpest minds from the data science community investigating the hardest questions.

The Institute prides itself on its combination of academic gravitas with innovative practices, breaking down disciplinary boundaries. Computer scientists, engineers, statisticians, mathematicians, and scientists all work together under one shared goal, with no departmental boundaries, interacting as a collaborative hub.

I was commissioned to take photographs that captured this unique mood and atmosphere, to be used as part of a new design that translates this unusual blend of rigidity and flexibility in thinking; helping to define the Institute’s brand and create its pioneering identity.
